Y’all! It is summer in Texas and its going to be a scorcher (like always!) Thank goodness Texas has some of the best swimming holes around to catch a break from the brutal summer heat.

Whether you’re new to the area or you’re a creature of habit and frequent the same watering holes each summer, I’ve compiled a list of the best places around.

Hamilton Pool Preserve (Dripping Springs)

Hamilton Pool one of Texans’ favorite swimming holes. You’ll need a reservation and make sure to book in advanced because they book up fast. With the gorgeous jade green water and cascading waterfalls, this is one of the most serene places to cool off this summer. However, swimming is not guaranteed with your reservation and swimming is currently not allowed but is subject to change around June 7th.

Jacob’s Well (Wimberley)

Jacob’s Well is a 200 ft deep well with limestone cliffs perfect for cliff jumping (if you’re a daredevil) It is the largest continually flowing karstic spring in the Texas Hill Country. Whether you want to jump from the cliffs, relax by the well, or explore the passages, Jacob’s Well is the perfect place to be this summer.

Krause Springs (Spicewood)

Krause Springs is a well-known camping and swimming spot in the Hill Country owned but eh Krause Family who are kind enough to let the public enjoy their little oasis. There are 32 springs on the property and several of these springs feed into their manmade pool and natural pool that flows into Lake Travis. Bring your family out and camp for the weekend!

Balmorhea State Park Swimming Pool ( Toyahvale)

Balmorhea State Park swimming pool is literally an oasis in the desert being the largest spring-fed swimming pool in the world at 77,053 square feet.

Barton Springs Pool (Austin)

Barton Springs Pool is one of Austinites’ favorite places to escape the summer heat and is FREEZING cold! It is filled entirely with water from nearby natural springs and even has a diving board.

Blue Hole (Wimberley)

This swimming hole is surrounded by Cypress trees with a few rope swings and the water is nice and clear  Bring a blanket and have a picnic because Blue Hole has plenty of grassy areas to lay around and enjoy the view.

Frio River at Garner State Park (Concan)

At the Frio, you can kayak, tube or swim in the gorgeous water and Garner State park has tons of options for camping (shelters, tent camping and RV sites) or you can rent a cabin or river house. The Frio River is a great place to come with the whole family!

Barton Creek Greenbelt (Austin)

If you hike a little ways down the trail at the greenbelt, you will find a awesome little swimming hole fed by Barton Creek. With waterfalls and gorgeous trails it is a nice way to spend the day.

Rio Vista Park (San Marcos)

This is an excellent place for tubing, swimming, white water rafting, and kayaking. There is even a tube chute at the Rio Vista Falls.

Burger’s Lake (Fort Worth)

This is a one acre spring-fed swimming pool with fountains, diving boards, water slides and sandy beaches. Burger’s Lake is a great place to take the family!

Devil’s Waterhole (Burnet)

Devil’s Waterhole is a favorite swimming hole at Inks Lake State Park. Many come to cliff jump. If you’re not into cliff jumping, it is a beautiful place to just swim, relax and soak up the sun.

Have a great summer and stay cool!
